Yes, I did eat the pizza too…

24 02 2010

My vegetarian experiment lasted exactly 28 days.  I have never been able to maintain the lifestyle longer than a month and this attempt was no different.  Well, it was different I was eating a wider variety of veggies, grains, etc — mixing the grains with the beans to give a complete amino acid package, etc, etc.  I ended up getting some odd rash that I think is from too much of one of the veggies I have been eating.  Or it’s from the dry cleaning solution.  Or…well, who really knows.

One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to basically not treat myself as something I had to “fix” or “repair” — I am not a project.  This life is not a project.  This  life is to be lived.

Yes, I did eat the pizza last night from our neighborhood pizza place.  It had everything on it and it was amazing!

Yes, I did eat the shrimp

23 02 2010

There I said it.  I confessed.  After 28 days of nothing but veggies I added shrimp to my “giant bowl of veggies” last night for dinner.

In 28 days of being an all veggie girl I have been sick 1.5 times (.5 for the time I was already sick when I started this little adventure)

I am not saying that eating meat will make me healthier — I don’t know what I am saying really.  I am still trying to figure that one out.

I am just confessing. And trying to find a bit of balance.  I tend to start things with an all or nothing attitude instead of some better than none attitude.

And rambling — that’s what I am doing rambling.

Yoga

yoga

I have been practicing yoga for over 5 years.  I am a self-taught yoga freak – learning all the poses I do from a dvd I bought years ago called “Yoga for Dummies” and then a few more from a Rodney Yee book.  Some yoga snobs would now tell you what I do is not “yoga” but merely stretching because I do not go to an official class and was not taught by an official teacher.  Oh well.  I am going to call it yoga.  And I call it yoga 7 days a week.

After so many years of practice I can honestly say I love the way it makes me feel.  My body feels  more “tight” when I skip a day.  It’s also a very calming 20 minutes before I start my day.  My practice is done in the virtual darkness of my bedroom everyday at 4:39 am.  It centers my day. I will say being self-taught is not for everyone.  You must really listen to your body and not injure yourself.  Yoga is not about getting the pose perfect – it’s about practicing the poses.  If something hurts – stop.

Yoga is great for flexibility, strength and stress relief. A great source of information on yoga is Yoga Journal
